About Districts

districts.nekoweb.org is a site directory created on Nekoweb for Nekowebbers... Nekowebians? The concept is based on a now-defunct site built for the same purpose on Neocities. Site directories are an idea pulled from the pre-Y2K internet, and are designed to help you more easily find webfronts by sorting them into relevant categories. These categories will sum up the topic of the website.

If a site has sent us buttons (those small rectangle images/GIFs) in their submission, we'll list those in the site listing. Sites may be listed in up to two districts (should it apply to more than one). While users may suggest districts for their site to be sorted into, we'll verify and ensure the suggested districts are the best suited ones for the site.

— How can I join districts?

Head on over to the request page! There you will find a set of step-by-step instructions to list your site on districts. Don't be shy!

— Why is it taking so long to be added?

I'm just one neko on the web! Each listing that appears on this website has been lovingly handbombed by yours truly. <3 Each submission requires verification, sorting, and modification of the districts code. Give this neko a bit of time or coffee, and your site will be up there soon.

— Are there any requirements to join Districts?

Not formally. There is a quality checklist I go through when adding any website (just to make sure we aren't adding mostly blank/empty websites), but as long as you've built an actual website with stuff on it, you have no need to worry.

— Are you going to add more Districts?

Tough to say! It will depend on how the Nekoweb landscape shakes out as it establishes itself. I think this website already covers most topics at a general level though, which is what Districts are meant to be. If that changes as time goes on and new Districts pop up in the Nekoweb, I may open a District to sort those sites into though.

— Why is this site so ugly?

Ouch. If you must know, it's currently - UNDER CONSTRUCTION -. There's still some dust around the site, and it needs a bit of refining. Feel free to read the updates log, and know that soon this place will be in a better state!
